Enikő Spekner
Enikő Spekner sat her matura exam in Budapest in 1973 and then she graduated in Latin and History from Eötvös Loránd University in 1978, and in Archival Studies in 1982. She defended her doctoral thesis entitled ‘Buda királyi székhellyé alakulása a 13‒14. században’ (The development of Buda into a royal seat in the 13th and 14th centuries) in 2010. She worked at the National Archives of Hungary from 1978 to 1988. She was a curator and, later, a chief curator at the Department of Medieval History in the Historical Museum of Budapest from 1988 until her retirement in 2018. At the Historical Museum, she was responsible for the Photographic Collection of Diplomatics and the Collection of Sigillary Copies.
Her main research interest is urban history, particularly the history of medieval Budapest. She was a curator of different domestic and international exhibitions about history and urban history. Her doctoral thesis was published with the title ‘Hogyan lett Buda a középkori Magyarország fővárosa?’ (How did Buda become the capital of Medieval Hungary?) in 2015. She is a member of the Association of Hungarian Archivists and the Society for Archaeology and Art History.
